Description

In the exciting game of Citadels, players step into new roles each round as characters they recruit to amass gold and build buildings. The game wraps up when a player erects their eighth building. Then, players count their points, and the one with the highest score takes the win! Each player begins with building cards in hand. These buildings come in five colors. Purple buildings usually have special abilities, while other - colored buildings offer perks when you play specific characters. At the start of each round, the previous round's king randomly discards one of the eight character cards, picks one, and passes the rest around until every player secretly selects a character. Each character has a unique ability, and its usefulness depends on your and your opponents' situations. Characters act in numerical order: the assassin takes out a character for the round, the thief steals gold, the wizard trades building cards, and the warlord can destroy a building. On a turn, a player gets two or more gold or draws two building cards and discards one. Then, they can build one building (or up to three if playing the architect). Buildings cost gold equal to the number of symbols on them and are worth points. At the end of the game, players get bonus points for having eight buildings or all five - colored buildings. The 2016 edition of Citadels features twenty - seven characters (eight original, ten from Dark City expansion, and nine new ones), thirty unique building districts, and the rulebook has six preset lists of characters and districts for different gameplay styles.

To start playing Citadels, each player gets a set of building cards. At the beginning of each round, the previous king manages the character cards. Remember, pick your character secretly as it will affect your moves. When it's your turn, you can either earn gold or draw building cards. If you choose to draw cards, don't forget to discard one. Building is an important part of the game, but make sure you have enough gold. The purple buildings often have special powers, so use them to your advantage. Keep an eye on your opponents' moves, as their actions can change the game. After the game, store the cards in a dry and cool place to keep them in good condition. Avoid bending or folding the cards to ensure they last for many games to come.
