Description

Step back to the era of Louis XIV. Pierre - Paul Riquet, an ingenious engineer and Army Superintendent, envisioned a canal system sourced from the Montagne Noire. From 1665 until his death in 1680, Riquet dedicated himself to planning, financing, and building this system. Some parts, like the Canal de Garonne, weren't finished until the 19th century. Now, relive the canal - building adventure between Grisolles and Valence d'Agen in Tarn - et - Garonne. In this game, each player takes on the role of an engineer. Use your best workers to construct the longest stretch of the Arriala, the local Occitan - named canal. You can move all workers, but only your team's workers earn fame points upon section completion. The position of your workers at completion matters. Aim to have the most workers on a finished canal stretch. Ties are broken in favor of the third - placed player. Build locks to change canal sections and create new ones. Point rewards depend on section length. Building structures also scores points, but it costs a worker (max five per player) for the rest of the game. Additionally, cultivate the famous local vines to gain valuable end - game points.

To play this game, first, understand that you're an engineer building the Arriala canal. Start by using your workers to construct canal sections between Grisolles and Valence d'Agen. You can move all the workers, but focus on getting your team's workers to complete sections and earn fame points. When construction of a section is done, pay attention to where you leave your workers. Try to have the most workers on a finished stretch of the canal. If there's a tie, the third - placed player wins. You can build locks to change and create new canal sections. Keep in mind that the points you get from locks depend on the length of the section. Building structures is also a way to score points, but you'll have to sacrifice a worker for the rest of the game (you can sacrifice a maximum of five per game). Also, don't forget to cultivate the vines. These will give you extra points at the end of the game. As for maintenance, just keep the game pieces in a safe place after each use to ensure they're in good condition for the next play.
