Description
Cartagena is a thrilling board game set in the backdrop of the legendary 1672 pirate jailbreak from the Cartagena fortress. Each player commands a team of six pirates and aims to be the first to get all of them to escape through the tricky underground passage leading to the port, where a sloop awaits. To move a pirate, play a card from your hand. These cards feature one of six symbols like gun, rum, parrot, etc. When you play a card, move a pirate to the next matching symbol in the tunnel, even jumping over those occupied by other pirates. The only way to get more cards is by moving backwards. Move a pirate back to the first space with one or two pirates and draw one or two cards. Each turn, take 1 - 3 actions, either moving forward, backward, or both. Once a pirate reaches the end, it boards the sloop and waits for the rest of its crew. As you near victory, you'll have fewer pirates to move each turn, so plan ahead to avoid getting stuck!
How to play: First, each player gets a group of six pirates. The goal is to be the first to get all your pirates through the underground passage to the sloop at the port. To move a pirate, play a card from your hand that matches a symbol in the tunnel. If there's already a pirate on a matching symbol, you can leapfrog over it. To get more cards, move a pirate backwards to a space with one or two pirates and draw the corresponding number of cards. Each turn, you can take 1 - 3 actions of moving forward, backward, or a combination of both. When a pirate reaches the end, it jumps on the sloop. Things to note: As you progress towards victory, you'll have fewer pirates to move each turn. Plan your moves carefully so you don't end up with no good options. Also, make sure to keep track of your cards and the positions of your pirates. Maintenance advice: Keep the cards and game pieces in a dry place to prevent damage. If the cards get dirty, you can gently wipe them with a soft, dry cloth.
