Description

Empire of the Sun (EotS) is Mark Herman's third card - driven game. It offers a strategic view of the entire Pacific War from the Pearl Harbor attack to Japan's surrender. This game combines the best of card - driven games and classic hexagon wargames. Players step into the shoes of military leaders like MacArthur, Yamamoto, Nimitz, and Mountbatten, directing forces across a vast area from India to Hawaii and Alaska to Australia on a single 1942 - based map. In EotS, players hide their plans while maximizing card impact, facing clear strategic choices focused on offensive advances. The combat system has two tiers: air - naval combat first, then ground combat. The key to strategic victory is the level of U.S. political will. The Japanese aim to force a negotiated peace by knocking out countries like India, China, and Australia and causing heavy U.S. casualties. EotS scenarios are designed for busy enthusiasts, serious gamers, and tournament players. It can be played in yearly scenarios (1942, 1943, 1944) of three turns each, taking under two hours. It's perfect for fans of card - driven games and classic hexagon wargames, offering excitement and replayability. The game is comprehensive yet easy to learn. Time scale is 4 months per turn, map scale is 150 miles per hex, and unit scale includes Brigade, Division, Corps, and Army.

To play Empire of the Sun, first choose your role as one of the famous military leaders. Each turn, which represents 4 months, you'll use your cards to direct your forces across the map with each hex being 150 miles. Try to hide your real intentions from your opponent while making the most of your cards. When it comes to combat, start with air - naval combat and then move on to ground combat. To win, the Japanese need to force the U.S. into a negotiated peace by achieving certain goals. The Allied forces should try to stop them. As for tips, plan your offensive axes carefully. Don't be too predictable with your card use. Remember, the game is designed to be fun and easy to learn, so don't worry if you're new. Just enjoy the strategic challenge. There's no special maintenance for this game, but keep the cards and map in a dry place to prevent damage. Have a great time playing!
