Description

Set in the dystopic 1930s, the industrial revolution has pushed fossil - based resource exploitation to the brink. Now, the only answer to the massive machines' and engineering progress' power hunger is the unlimited hydroelectric energy from rivers. Barrage is an exciting resource management strategic game. Players, representing four international companies, compete to build magnificent dams in a contested Alpine region with rivers. They raise dams to boost storage, and use pressure tunnels to deliver power to turbines in powerhouses. This game features two challenging mechanisms. First, actions and resources are on a Construction Wheel. Plan well, and you'll get them back earlier. Second, the river's water flow is a shared resource. Intercept, store water, build and raise dams, and construct tunnels to your powerhouses. Water isn't consumed; it's released back to the rivers, so dam placement is key. Over five rounds, meet power requirements on a competitive track and personal contract requests. Place engineers to upgrade machinery and build special buildings for your strategy.

To play Barrage, first understand that you represent one of four international companies. Your goal is to build dams in the Alpine region with rivers to generate power. When you start, manage your actions and resources on the Construction Wheel. Be careful with your planning because you'll only get your resources and actions back after a full turn of the wheel. Try to use them efficiently so they come back to you sooner. Regarding the water resource, look at the board and find good spots to intercept and store water. Upstream dams can be expensive but are useful as they can block water before it reaches downstream dams. Build long tunnels to direct water to your powerhouses. Remember, water is never used up; it just goes back to the rivers. So, think strategically about where to place your dams to make the most of the water flow. Over the five rounds, keep an eye on the common competitive power track and your personal contracts. Try to meet the power requirements and specific requests. Place your limited number of engineers wisely. Use them to enhance your machinery for better construction actions and to build special buildings that can help your overall strategy. There aren't many special maintenance steps for this game, but keep the game board and pieces clean and organized so you can enjoy smooth gameplay.
