In Broadhorns! Early Trade on the Mississippi, players step into the shoes of St. Louis - based merchants in the early 19th century. They finance cargo expeditions down the Mississippi River over a year with different seasonal challenges. Players start with a bit of gold in St. Louis and can only afford the smallest broadhorn for their first trip. As they earn more gold, they can choose between smaller, faster broadhorns and larger ones with more cargo space. They load their broadhorns with 5 types of cargo: apples, flour, pork, fur, and whiskey. Apples, flour, and pork are perishable, so timely delivery is crucial. The farther down the river they sell their cargo, the higher the return. Players can also pick up travelers at towns for extra gold.
To play this game, first, start in St. Louis with a small amount of gold. Use it to buy the smallest broadhorn for your first expedition. Choose from 5 types of cargo - apples, flour, pork, fur, and whiskey - to load onto your broadhorn. Remember, apples, flour, and pork will spoil, so deliver them quickly. You can stop at any town along the way to sell your cargo and buy more. The farther down the Mississippi you go, the more money you'll make from selling cargo. Also, look out for travelers at towns and take them to their destinations to earn extra gold. When you've earned more gold, you can upgrade to a better broadhorn, either a smaller, faster one or a larger one with more space. There aren't really any maintenance steps for this game, but always keep an eye on the perishable cargo's time limit.
